Mid Market Rent Properties

What is Mid-Market Rent?

Mid-market rent (MMR) is an initiative from the Scottish Government which aims to provide a type of affordable housing for households on low to moderate incomes. MMR aims to assist those households to access affordable rented accommodation and helps those who have difficulty accessing social rented housing, buying their own home or renting privately. MMR properties are generally cheaper than private rental properties, but more expensive than social housing. Tenants are responsible for Council Tax and all utilities in addition to the rent. Tenants must pay a deposit and the first month’s rent prior to the start date of the tenancy.

Do I have to be eligible for social housing to apply for a Mid-Market Rent?

The eligibility criteria for MMR properties is different from social housing. Those who may not be eligible for social housing, could be eligible for MMR properties. The criteria for MMR properties is set by the responsible housing association and the whole household income will be taken into account.

How can I register my interest in Mid-Market Rents?

You can confirm your interest in receiving information about MMR properties as part of the HOME Argyll application form process.

Where can I find a Mid-Market Rent property?

At present, there are limited MMR properties available across Argyll and Bute. Housing associations and other organisations may advertise the availability of MMR properties via their websites, or on their social media channels.
